Re: Hot Starting Issue
Hi Brian, use a screwdriver handle to knock against the Dinoplex enclosure, if it sounds hollow it is a Super4. Regarding the ignition setup test and retaining the the good starting behaviour, just rewire everything as before and simply bridge the white resistor with a wire while starting, then remo...

Re: Hot Starting Issue
Hi Adrian, We changed the wiring to your suggestion, although we bypassed the electronic ignition, and have temporaily gone with a points and 12v coil. The hot starting is much improved (and the cold starting also), so must've been a weak spark issue. I now have a rev counter that bounces around al...

Re: Hot Starting Issue
Hi Brian, the Super4 ignition is actually a clone of the early seventies Bosch TSZ, the output is exactly the same as a points and coil ignition, e.g. not really sufficient for running the Dino engine. I would recommend getting something with more output, as example a MSD 6A/Blaster 2, a Crane XR300...

Re: Hot Starting Issue
Can you tell us what ignition setup and plugs you have in place?
If you keep the throttle fully open while starting, how long does it take for the engine to catch?

Re: Problems with points / breakerless ignition
Interesting, haven't had such problems with points supplied by Superformance yet, maybe their supplier changed? Have you or Mark talked to Colin about this? Maybe Eurospares has a different set available? My favorite conversion is the Lumenition Optronics OS50 pickup combined with the Bosch 137 high...

Re: Fiat Dino Tacho
I think that the MSD has an internal ballast pulldown on the points wire, so you should be fine not installing any additional ballast resistor. You should see a difference in much easier hot and cold starts, when doing low speed driving (no plug fouling) in the city as well as in high revs (better t...

Re: Fiat Dino Tacho
Ok, then it seems to be a design issue (not enough cooling/metal surface available to cool down the IGBT). BSMpdi solved this a bit more elegantly by separating the pickup in the distributor from the control/load electronics so they don't have a temperature problem. The setup with the MSD 6A and the...
