2400 DINO advices

Post by simlik »

Hello Dino fans,

I´d like to ask you for your opinion/help with one Dino.
I have the possibility to buy Fiat Dino 2400 as shown on the pictures. Dino is my dream but I don´t have a lot of money to spend so I try to find some hidden gem.
Car was in the dry storage for about 6 years and now it´s for sale.
Engine should be ok, seats are damaged and there is some rust on the bottom of the doors and in the front side of the hood.

What do you think by your expert eye of the state of the car just from the photos?
How much money should I pay for this car (the state is by my opinion for basic restoration – engine check, bodywork, paint, new seats).
What about the basic spare parts? How much should I have to count to make it to good state (not to concours)?
Should I check some special details which are very important for 2,4 Dino (engine of course)?

Thanks for your help
David

Hi David,

It is always difficult to advise somebody by looking at the pictures!

As you describe it it seems that a lot of work is to be done and spare parts are not easy to find.
Especially for the interior. So, if the seats tare worn out; no replacement available as seats and fabric is not on hand.

Looking at the applied Ferrari logo and the black around the Fiat logo seems that the former owner would like is Fiat to be a Ferrari => watch out for neglected maintenance!
Also the black sticker could indicate rust => same as for the interior; spare parts are hard to find.
Wheels seems not to be original as well.

Do not know where you live but if you speak german this buying guideline may help:
http://www.dino-register-deutschland.de ... ?f=20&t=14

Other interesting info on matching interior with color you can find on:
http://www.dinouk.com/technical_colours.html

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Jos,

Thank you very much for your reply.
Of course it is difficult – thant´s why I´m asking for help, because the car is quite far form me and I want to have the most infomations and advices before I decide to go to see it.
It´s clear that I have to see it and then I have to deside, when I see the real state of the car.

Thank you for the links – I did check them (especially the buying guidline). Shamely there is more info about Spiders, than Coupes….
What do you think about prices of 2,4 Coupes? Of course I can check Oldtimer Markt Prices Book, but how is it practicaly on the market?
When I check pages like mobile.de the cheapest car is for 14 000euro and it is a not runner, which I think is worse than some rust or dents.

I think there is still low demand for Coupes but I think it is only a question of time when the prices will rapidly increase…When I copare it to Spider there are much more desirable than Coupes.
Similar situation with Alfa Romeo Montreal, which is in my eyes underestimated..

Have a nice day
David

Hi David,

I can not help you on the pricing part!
Only r^thing I know is that the CoupLé's have been going up in pricing over the last 3 year.
It is hard to find an original good runner below 20K €uro.
Where do you live? If it is not to remote ( 8-) ) I am sure one of us can join you for an inspection.
One last piece of advice; do take a magnet with you in order to check window frame, a pillar, wheel arches in the back and front!
No metal = lot of work!

Good luck.

If you go to www.leparking.fr and search 'fiat dino', you will find a compilation of a large number of listings from European and other websites, which should give you a useful sample of prices relative to condition. Prices are going up now, so waiting is probably not the best strategy. It also sounds to me like you will be able to find something you can afford IF you are planning to do a lot of the work and searching for parts yourself. Best of luck with your search!

Hello David,

rust is normal on a car from the '70. The wheels are orginals, but without black parts painted. The original colour of the bodywork is probably metallic grey n°606 because the interior colours are like my Dino's interior. The seats can be repaired but not with same grey velvet, maybe in leather.
I think the right price is about 6000/7000 €, but you have a good works to do.

Hope to have help you.

The hub caps are Fiat Dino 2400 Spider ! (not Fiat Dino Coupé) and very sought for. Makes the car more precious. :D

It loks like there is a thick layer of putty on the car. I would be careful regarding this car. :?
