Assembly date early first serie 2000 Spider

Post by Beucars »

Hi,

Thank you for adding me to your forum!

I would like to know the assembly date of Spiders in the chassis-number 130-140 range? Or where can I find any documentation re this?

What I understand is that the first (production) Spider (s/n 026?) was assembled on the 8th of October 1966 and that before the end of 1966 a total of 500 Spiders were ready?

Thank-you!

You should check Mike Morris book :

March 1967. Italian registration details show that 17 cars were registered
in March 1967, 39 in April, 96 in May, 90 in June, 60 in July, 39 in August, 16 in September, 12 in October, 8 in November, 6 in December then 44 in January 1968, 35 in February and 42 in March 1968, including the 500th car. It took over a year to sell 500 on the home market and very few were exported during this period. Fiat’s record of manufacture shows that the 500th car was completed in August 1967, so either they had trouble getting them out to their network of agencies or, more likely, the price was a bit hard to swallow for a Fiat customer, since it was about 2V2 times that of a 124 Spyder, and they did not sell like hot cakes!
