Engine numbers

Post by vlad »

Are there any lists compiled regarding the years and engine numbers ?

I have a 1970 2.4 Coupe engine number 000808x

can't make out the first part it looks like 135C0000 but shouldn't there be an S (as in 135CS000 ? - I thought so - or perhaps that was just the blocks used in the Ferraris - that's where I have seen 135CS)

Thanks

There is one for sale at classicdriver.com right now that should derive from a spider 2000
where the ID says 135B 000 0001498

Hello,
sure you read the no correct ?
A 808x is not a Dino engine
Is it a 800er no it‘s an engine from 1968
Is it a 8000er it‘s sure not Dino
How can it be be when even not build more the ~ 1600 cars....
See attachment......or I understood your question wrong....
And by the way : after ~ 20 classic cars I ended by the cabrios by a Spider and yes, will be the car until I can‘t drive car !!
The best driving and feeling !
greetings
Peter

Thanks for your replies so far.

I don't think the fact they only built < 1600 cars (I presume you are referring to Spiders) is proof that there can't be engine numbers beyond 1600.

Its well documented that the engine numbers don't match chassis numbers, the engine number isn't on the chassis plate, you have to actually get it from the block.

Attached is a pic. (from the internet ) of a Ferrari Dino block with it's engine number.

As I understood it the engines were pulled from the pool of engines when they were required, be it for Fiat, Spider or Coupe (in the case of the 2.4's) or Ferrari as they were all built at Marenello.

My car was built at the end of 1969 one of the last 373x chassis numbers that year according to Mikes book, with a block number 808x

does anyone else have numbers to hand chassis/engine to validate ?

I could conceive of Ferraris with the engines from Fiats in them as I believe this happened (in the 80's and 90's -when the Fiat Dino was unloved by most) and if a Ferrari Dino had a catastrophic engine failure but probably not the other way around
