soft top

Post by Argonaut »

Hi,

my Dino Spider is coming closer to his end of restoration. Right now she sits in a place to receive new upholstry, new soft top, carpets, etc.

My questions now:

1. What is the right soft top for a 1968 Spider? As far as my research is going "Sonnenland" is not the right quality. What is the right material? Anyone having a clue?

2. Around the carpets the same question: What is the right material?

3. And last question: what is the right material for the boot?

Thanks in advance

Re the Spider soft top material,I am not sure exactly what you are asking for - but the soft top should be made of the typical
canvas material, used for most italian cabriolets from the period. Some american manufacturers have used some kind of vinyl-
based material, but as far as I know, Pininfarina never used this for the Dino Spiders. For most body colours, the soft top was black
from factory.
I bought a semi-finished canvas soft top for my own Spider from a italian company called Bermach Italia - but that was 30 years
ago!!

Does anyone know the best source for a reproduction soft top?

Hello Amir,
I recently bought a soft top for my 2400 spider through Re-Originals that they claimed was "Pininfarina cloth" and and made in Italy. It was a little under $1K, and is made of a very fine, flexible cloth. The top has all the right padding around the windows, and it fits beautifully. I'm very happy with it. Call Matteo or Marco at 832-632-9290, they are based in south Texas somewhere, but apparently have some good connections in Europe. They are hard to get hold of sometimes, so be persistent!
Good luck with your car and wish you the best!

Thanks Ed!
I did end up going with Re-Originals as well. It’s been about a week since I placed the order and I’ve spoken to them a couple times during that time. They are still trying to source the top from Italy so fingers crossed!
