2.0 clutch plumbing sizes

Post by JeremyC »

Does anyone know the tube and flare nut sizes for the rigid clutch pipe on the 2.0. Thanks.

Further details:

I'm just in the process of replacing the flexible clutch hose and have
a new one supplied by Superformance. The thread on the flare nut on the
rigid pipe only engages about one turn in to the new flexible hose
whereas it full engages in the old one. The threads are clearly
incompatible probably SAE vs. Metric.

Some facts:

The rigid clutch pipe is a copper alloy and therefore I suspect it is
not original.

The flare nut is as follows:

Thread outside diameter 11.8mm
Thread (measured with a thread gauge) 20tpi (or could this be 1.25mm,
they must be very close, I have a metric thread gauge on the way)

The rigid pipe has outside diameter 6.4mm and is therefore almost
certainly 1/4 inch pipe, is this correct or should it be metric. The
brakes are Girling and therefore SAE but was the clutch plumbing kept
consistent or is it metric.

Does anyone know what the thread for this union should be? I'm not
saying the Superformance part is wrong, it's possible someone has fitted
a non standard hose and flare nut in the past.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jeremy

The Superformance flexible hose is M12 1.0, a very fine metric thread. I haven't absolutely confirmed what the old hose was but I believe it was M12 1.25.

Sourcesof M12 1.0 flare nuts seem fairly scarce but I managed to get them from Automec in the UK. They sell a long and a short and I ordered both, the short is sufficient. Tomorrow I pick up the pipe with the new flare nut fitted and hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll either have working clutch hydraulics or I'll be ordering a master cylinder.

Out of interest has anyone ever converted a 2.0 to cable operated clutch?
