Hi Hugo,
Many thanks for your thoughtful comments, and I'm happy that you got your car running right! I have hunted unsuccessfully all over the US for a shop to repair the Dinoplex, but I did have a long conversation with the SoCal owner of Marelli Services, who was a real expert on the situation. He was a great help, and got me straight on the importance of getting all the components...Ignition, coil, distributor, all working in harmony! I've gotten my head straight around the MSD option, and my mechanic and I are going to go to it. I don't know yet whether we'll use the Dinoplex box or leave it all on the shelf as you had mentioned. I'll keep you posted, and thanks again. Getting the car running right DOES sound good...but I might miss the whine!

Hi all

Sorry for the delayed posting, I’ve been busy doing other things whilst my (new to me) Spider 2.0 1968 is with Mark Devaney (now ready for collection - hooray!). I’ll do a proper post when I have it back with me to introduce it etc.

I actually test drove this red Spider prior to buying mine. It is the Foskers car which they had up for £113k. The new paint looks fantastic……. IlBut quite a few things to consider: It has had some rust remediation work on the undersills, chrome areas are not fantastic (and expensive to replace / repair eg windscreen surround), interior dash chrome poor condition, Nardi steering wheel, leather seats looked potentially non standard, underside had some work (fuel tank replaced / remodelled in fibreglass).

The 2.3l conversion was done on this one by Superformance in the 1990s when I understand it was a common(ish) thing. Mark D told me that it can put pressure on the gearbox (obviously not the stronger ZF unit). This car had a crunching 2nd gear, so I assumed that needed rebuilding (won’t be cheap presumably). It did have some poke, a bit more than my 2000 but not a huge amount in it.

I’ve got some more detailed pictures and probably notes if anyone wishes to PM.

Thanks
Rob

Hello Rob,

Congrats on your recent purchase... Was chatting with Mark earlier in the week, and he mentioned that you had been to see it at Foskers, but had bought a more interesting car...

Harry's Garage also just did a little review on the upcoming Silverstone 3 days Classic Car Sale Auction. He talks about the above Fiat Dino (forward the YouTube clip to 15:28 for the part about the Fiat Dino):

Thanks Rob, look forward to meeting up with the UK Dinos at some point soon.

For those at Silverstone would be fascinating to also have a dig at the Dino 206 SP and Alfa ATL…!

It looks like someone has wasted a lot of money with the 206 SP conversion.
