reverse gear

Hope you can help. Am I being neurotic or is it normal to find engaging reverse gear stressfull. It seems hit and miss as regard engaging occasionally it slips in no problem.Other times I am coming out in a cold sweat i.e.the walll gets closer.The other thing on same thread the car is 67 Dino spider are their supposed to be reversing lights. Last thing for now what speed tickover.Mny thanks Terry

Reversing lights only come on when main lights are switched on (side etc).
