Yes Dinoswede, it would be resolving many unclear points.
But I think that the rush for car production did not allow this at the time.
For example, if you look at the date of the spare parts catalog, it is marked III - 67 (March 1967), when the production of the Fiat Dino Spider "first series" (alloy dash) began in 1966.
For this reason I think that are very important the original era photos, and the knowledge of the exact time when they were taken ;)

I'd be careful with such pictures. They may also be from pre-series cars that might all differ in detail. At this stage, it is unlikely that all cars have been identical.
By the way, page 86 of Nico's Dino book (https://www.amazon.de/Dino-Nico-Schumac ... 3613031450) shows a B/W works image of an early Spider w/o Dinoplex and engine compartment in body color.

Toby, we are just assuming, seeing the old pictures of the first series, that the engine compartment and luggage compartment of the early FIAT Dino Spider were in the same color as the body.
In my opinion are most truthfull pictures taken in the same period of production of early 500 Fiat Dino Spider than the manual, printed after first 500 cars been completed and already started the production of second series FIAT Dino Spider ...
IMHO the manual includes images of the FIAT Dino Spider "second series" which are not true (and photos of the magazine will have a clue) for the "first series" (first 500 car with alloy dashboard).
My initial question was in fact to know if anyone had an early Fiat Dino Spider preserved to find evidence about the differences encountered ;)

Hi Argonaut thanks for the picture you posted; can you confirm us for sure that the car shown is in its original paint?

In case this would be a direct and real confirmation of what, in my opinion, comes out clearly from the images included in the 1967 magazine I was referring to. That is the first 500 FIAT Dino Spider produced came out with body colour engine bay. Note that the care included in the magazine is not a pre series (in the article is indicated that the car used for the reportage is body n.444).

HI Franz,

unfortunately I can not confirm. It was just a picture I received from a guy in Italy selling this early spider. The car has been repainted but do not know whether the engine bay has been redone as well. I will try to check this out for you.

Best

It seems that it is still prevailing viw that early Spiders have body color in the engine bay. But there is no cocksure proof.

Update...I found some proof of the original white color also in the engine bay.
So it seems that engine bay was originally painted...
