16" wheel on 2400 coupe

Post by ahsan127 »

Does anyone have experience with a larger diameter wheel on the 2400 coupe. I'm looking into 16" wheels. What tire would fit without any rubbing? I want to look into tire options before purchasing the wheels.

Hi,
Not on a coupe but on one of my 2400 spiders. I used 205/55/16 tyres. I'm useless at adding photos to websites, but if you want to e mail me on brian1boxall@btinternet.com I can send some images to you,

Hi, I have a set of 16" rims (the superformance Cromadora copies with 205/55R16s) I used to run on my 2400 coupe . (no fouling issues)

I thought they looked OK, but I think it fair to say they wasn't a lot of love on the forum for them.

Since then I have had a fairly major restoration, and am now running the car on 14" campag's and with the refreshed (completely new) suspension, she handles brilliantly.

I will at some point put the 16" back on to do a handling comparison, but I do think the 14" look great.

The 16" would suit if I'd gone for more of a resto mod. look, but my resto. was to factory.

Pics. below.

I see what you mean about the restomod look. I agree, based on those pictures the 14"s look much better.

Vlad,

I must have looked back at your pictures at least twenty times. I realize in the first picture the car is beautifully restored and looks correct with the 14" wheels. In the second picture the car, like you said, looks like a restomod. But I think that is also due to the cars overall condition/look. I was sent more pictures by Brian and I'm actually liking the look. I think i'm going to buy a set of 16's from Superformance. Will post before and after pictures once wheels are mounted. Will keep the 14's when I need to go back to stock.

Look at that threads, too:

I remember that I recently read about the poor quality of the Superformance wheels. Someone wrote that he had to return them and wants to try the ones of Dino Parts now. Maybe somewhen remembers the thread, I wasn't able to find it.
Personally, I think that the 16" wheels don't fit to the overall appearance of the Dino. They kill the well-balanced proportions of the car.

Hi,

a few points the wheels that Scalino bought from Superformance are 14" I believe?

The 16" do have bevelled stubs for the hup caps - not the incorrect straight cut illustrated in Tim's thread on the 14" repos' he purchased.

The paint finish on my 16"'s wasn't the greatest either, no dust issues but paint a bit thick (I think to cover the rough casting! ) - but at the price point good I think.

Supplying new with painted mounting surface is poor practice - on the Superformance 14" Campags. I also bought this caused an issue and we had to have them milled.

I was surprised that they came with a painted mounting surface, the wheel restorers I use in the UK always mill the mounting surface when they refurb. my wheels.

TBH at the price and with Tim's attention to detail I'd have thought about having superferformance 14" cromadora repos. made good at a wheel refurber. ? A bit extravagant but at £50 a corner you could have the quality finished product you wanted? (But with the hup cap mounting stubs straight cut perhaps still not good enough).

The Superformance 16" cromadora copies don't have any marks that would identify them as made for Superformance.
Just Size, and made in the UK. (maybe there 14" are different?)
So if DinoParts have 16" cromadora repos. available I'd be surprised if they aren't from the same source (with the same quality issues)

Do Dinoparts sell a 16" Cromadora repo. ? I could only see the 16" Ferrari ' 5 Star' for sale on their web site - and at £2000+ taxes - they are a different price point!

Hope the info. helps you make your choice
