I went to install my new license plate on my coupe last night and there are 4 holes [about 0.5cm square] on the rear panel between the tail lights.
I removed the carpet from the rear panel expecting to have access to the back side of the holes so I could use a through bolt, but there is a steel panel blocking access. How does one mount the rear license plate?
Thanks, Ben.

Don't you have the chrome frame for holding the licence plate? If you have square holes, you might need to install plastic nuts to hold the screws.

No license plate frame, just 4 square holes in the sheet metal.
I suspected there needs to be some expanding, square, plastic nut in the hole in which to screw the plate fasteners.
Thanks, Ben.

The license plate frame is very rare and sought-after. It seems that it has often been removed (and stored unfindable) to attach license plates that don't fit into the frame. I had to cut my license plate to fit.

A trip to my local Autozone car supply store and I found these square body nuts.
I wasn't sure which size would fit, so I bought the assortment pack.
The 3.4 mm ones were a perfect fit.
A #10 stainless steel screw fit the nut nicely.
My license plate is now mounted on the car.
Ben.
