‘67 Spider build.
Hi all,
I have a few of what should be easy questions or clarifications:
1. Did the chrome name on the trunk/boot day Fiat Dino or just Dino?
2. The parts manual and operators manual which I downloaded from this forum( many thanks to whoever posted those) shows that the boot lid was help open by the same spring loaded leg used on the hood.
But my trunk lid has a sliding/ lock and unlock device that was common years ago. There is no sign of the spring loaded leg, no support or bracket on the lid or body.
3. On the front fenders did the Fiat Dino signs have a side marker light, or was this just the Coupe? Also did it have a Pininfarina logo also.
Thanks
Michael

Ad 1: the chrome name on the boot was Fiat Dino
Ad 2: as far as I know only the sliding lock was available for the 2.0 Spiders
Ad 3: the 2.0 spiders do have the pininfarina logo plus the symbol on the fenders next to the doors (the 2.4 then did have indicators integrated in this combination); the indicators for the 2.0 Spiders were placed slightly behind the big indicators in the front (in yellow)

Thanks for the response,
I’m clear on 1 & 2 but on item 3 the side marker is not separate from the amber light below the headlights, but included the lamp as it curves around enough to act as a side marker. In other words no separate light fixture?
Michael

Re: ‘67 Spider build.
The direction indicators (not side markers) are different between 2000 and 2400 Spider.
The 2000 has them in front of the wheel on the fender: The 2400 has them behind the wheel on the fender intergated into the emblem:

Thanks Toni,
Those pics tell the story. They are Euro cars as they have clear running lights.
The US model I have has amber lenses and until I put the new ignition switch in I can’t tell if the turn signals work. The bulb in the front certainly has a twin filament.
I’ll let you know what I find.
67 thru 71 was a weird time for US imports for instance the front end of a 69 MGB looks totally different to the Euro model. Bumpers, lights and gone were the knock on hubs.
Thanks again

I don't think that Fiat has exported its Dinos with US specs. These may have been private exports with various private conversions.

I do prefer the white lenses.

Re: ‘67 Spider build.
Hi Tobi,
What a "rabbit hole" this issue of the sidelights.
Thy are definitely shown in the parts catalogue. Superformance has two different types for the Spyder. I just looked at the Historic Photos in our own forum. Some Spiders have them some don't.
I checked under my wheels well and there is a perfectly round plate welded on the inside where the light should go. They have the original underbody coating on them. Its hard to tell if these were put on during a repaint of the car which was done in 1993. Only time will tell, when i completely strip the body for painting.
Very curious though

Re: ‘67 Spider build.
Here some more pictures of „Prima Serie“ spiders (the first 500 spiders for Formula 2 engine homologation purpose.)
Literature says that most of them were sold in northern Italy around Torino simply to keep maintenance and maturity issues under control. Regular european sales of the spider 2000 started with the series 2.
