Later model 2.0 Spider (#663) controls

Post by Gaelicguy »

Good evening all (evening for me) finally the weather has moderated in NE Washington State so I spent time in my garage fitting the ignition switch I’ve had for about 2 months.
Amazingly the car after sitting for 35 yrs lit up.
I pulled the plugs out sprayed fogging oil in the cylinders and turned the key the last step.
The starter engaged immediately and turned the engine.
I stopped instantly, not wanting to spin dry cams.
All good news, I started going thru all the controls.
Lights all worked, signal lights worked, cigarette lighter, fuel pump tried to pump the empty tank, but The wipers didn’t work and I can’t find the switch for the heater fan!
I also have a control on the right hand side of the steering column that I don’t know what it’s for. Both the manual and parts list on our forum show the early dash models.
Any comments appreciated
Michael

Hi, as the Serie 2 Spider models are very similar to the 2,4 spiders on the inside, you can check the 2,4 manual. See here an Italian version but should help. Look at #22 and 23.

Thank you Thomas
Is it the same for the mechanics of the cars or are all Spiders the same?
Does anyone know when the Weber’s changed from 3 bolt to 4?

If I'm not mistaken, the change from 3 bolt DCN's to 4 bolt DCNF's occurred when the engines went from 2.0 liters to 2.4 liters.

Not fully correct as far as I know. The change to DCNFs happened already during 2.0 production. It is important to note that the air intake housing with the mimik of the choke are also differing with the move to DCNFs

Right. This Change seem to have happened somewhere in the middle of Serie 2 at around chassis # 800...

That seems right I have a 1968 Dino Vin 997 and it has the 4 bolt Weber setup & design.

Which is the real choke control?
I have the butterfly's in the intakes, but the linkage is not connected to anything, i also have the Choke control Valve Actuating levers with the continuous cable connecting all three carbs.
