hello all,

i'm just a newbie on the forum here. after my jensen interceptor and datsun 240z i'm more looking for something italian and my attention was draw instantly at the relatively understated looks and amazing V6 of the dino (and also to the interior/details of the 2000 version).

I'm therefore looking for a fiat dino 2000 coupe - i have done a some research like reading all possible buying guides on the internet (even the ones , checking parts prices / availability, online owner opinions/articles...

But i haven't actually spoken to any owners!! so that's why i ask you what would be fair prices for a usable driver - good car - restored car in europe? what kind of mileage would put you off a car? how much will an engine rebuild cost if you don't go to the $$$ ferrari $$$ specialist but do as much as possible yourself and outsource the machining work and buy parts at e.g. superformance.

there are not so many cars on the market so it's also difficult to judge what is the market level as there are some many crazy asking prices or fake adverts.

Just browse this forum since this is a frequently asked question. There is a golden rule to buy the best car available but this is often not possible for everyone. A good body is important since this is hard to rebuild and body parts are not available. It is also important that the car is complete, i.e. no interior parts or chrome trim is missing; these parts are hard to source. The engine should be in sound condition and a service history is helpful. A rebuild which does not require parts like a cylinder head should be below 5k Euros. However, there are some engine jewelers out there who take much more. Take your time to find a car that suits best to your requirements.

Hi, regarding price and what to care for see other threads, just as Tobi said.
Its always the question what you want and are looking for.
The engine is generally spoken quite robust and reliable, 2,4 more than 2,0, - but it is very important how the pre owner handled it.
So a Dino engine can still be good running with 100.000 Km on it - but somewhere around 120/150/180 a rebuild will be necessary.
When it comes to rebuild prices: also depending what you do and what you need/want new. I am just within the work of a complete rebuild of a 2,4 engine.
When you take new Pistons, the first 1,5k Euro are already gone, when you need new cams, the next 1,5 kEuro are needed. Rework te cams might be possible if yours are not too bad, will be around 500 Euro and so on.
A full rebuild of a cylinderhead with new valves, guides, valve seats and so on needs parts for appr. 500 Euro each.
With bearings, gaskets, chains and so on you can end up with parts only at 4-5k Euro - when you have good crankshaft and conrods.
And then there are of course the periphericals like carbs, alternator, starter, waterpump, Distributor etc.
Then the machinery comes on top. So 5kEuro is more the lowest cost level for a real rebuild out of my experience.

But on the other hand: if you buy a Dino with a good running engine, you do not need to go into a full rework of he engine. If the engine is well maintained and gets the correct treatment the Dino V6 is quite solid.

And what is unquestioned: the design of the coupe and the sound and joy of driving a Dino is really outstanding.
