Distributor contacts setup
Hello.
I have foud out why my 2400 was running poorly, with lots of misfires snd flat spots. The contacts were misaligned, i mean. They where not exactly opposed 180 degrees. I have adjusted just comparing. Runs much better.
Is it any accurate way to do it?
Thanks..

Just like i said before. Attach timing light to cilinder nr. 3 and nr.4 and see if they fire at exact same point. If not adjust.
This on it's own is not so difficult, the difficult part is to keep both this and your dwell correct. You might only need correctly adjusted dwell on emergenza mode (according to revious reply by alh in other tread) but i would like to have this right as well in case you need to drive in emergenza mode. To get this right you need a distributor test machine.
If you rotate the points base plate it affects your dwell, that means you have to change points gap which affects your dwell again which means you have to adjust your base plate setting etc. etc.
If your located in the Netherlands or close, i have a distributor testmachine that can help you out (and check your advance graph as well)

Re: Distributor contacts setup
Thanks again..
For some reason my 2400 comes with the large Dinoplex ando no Emergenza coil. So I have to keep constant the dwell angle in one contact, and move the other one accordingly to have the same dwell on both contacts. Trial and error. I imagined some kind of sophistication..
I will have delivered a new set of contacts, togheter with many more spares. When everything arrive it will be time to play.
By the way, thanks for the offer, but I live maybe too far away.. Spain..
Regards..

Re: Distributor contacts setup
What you mean with emergenza coil? Or do you mean emergenza switch?
How do you check your dwell with these dual contact breakers because my normal dwell gauge will only show the average dwell of the 2

I am still learning about the Dinoplex. I have seen setups with 2 coils. I only have one. Where should the switch be?Stefan2000 wrote:What you mean with emergenza coil? Or do you mean emergenza switch?

Ok. I have just made some calculations and I was wrong. The second contact is offset 45 deg, so it does not use a contact for every 3 cilinders. So if I have a 3 lobe rotor, how does it manage to fire 6 cilinder? Why the second contact is offset 45 deg?
I am sorry if I am bothering you. I am used to play with efis, and the only car(s)I have that use contacts run on 4cyl Fiat TC's
Thanks for your explanations.

Visit www.dinoplex.org and you'll get all information you need about the Dinoplex. This is a great source! Thanks again to Adrian!Barnfind wrote:I am still learning about the Dinoplex. The large Dinoplex has a switch at the cable end for switching between Normale (Dinoplex) and Emergenza (points, i.e. Dinoplex bypass). These two setups require different coils (refer to dinoplex.org for more info about the right coils). Therefore, the Dino has two coils. If the Dinoplex fails, you switch to Emergenza and connect the Emergenza coil to keep the Dino driving. The small Dinoplex has no switch, but a set of connectors for switching to the no-Dinoplex setup.

No don't worry your not bothering me, i'm also new to the dino's so i'll might be misunderstanding some things as well.
For example, i have no idea about the 2 coils, i have the dinoplex AEC 101C with the normal and emergenza switch but i just have 1 coil, a BZR205A. It's running fine on both normal and emergenza so am i really missing a coil?
If you re-read the other thread you started you'll might understand how it works. Because there i wrote (in a bit more comprehensiv way) that it uses the point where 1 breaker opens and the point where the opposit breaker closes to generate the dwell instead of using 1 breaker that opens and closes to generate the dwell. You have 3 lobes and 2 breaker points, that is in theory the same as 6 lobes and 1 breaker point, they 'break and make contact' 6 times per revolution.
That is also why they are offset because 1 point has to be open while the other one is closed

Thanks again..
I visited some time ago www.dinoplex.org, and I printed all about, but having only one car to look at, makes it difficult to know if everything is as it should be. With my large Dinoplex and only one coil, looks like somebody played a role in the past..
Thanks for explaining me (again). I begin to understand how it works..

Re: Distributor contacts setup
Barnfind,
the wiring diagram in the middle is the correct one for your setup:
http://www.dinoplex.org/PDF/Dinoplex_AE ... iagram.pdf
Early 2400 Dinos came with a AEC101CA/CB, the correct BZR205A ignition coil is both the Normale and the Emergenza coil, based on thr wiring/switch position.
Good luck,
Adrian

Re: Distributor contacts setup
I will work on the car today (and tomorrow.. and the next day...). I will have a look and take pictures, so you can say if everything is fine..
Thanks for your help..
