Hello to all!
I've got a question that is a minor thing, but gets into the lore of Fiat vs. Ferrari motors. The motor of my '71 Dino Spider is apart on the work bench at Carobu engineering. It appears to be the original unit, and judging by the extreme difficulty in removal, it would appear the heads have not been off before. My mechanic has rebuilt multiple Ferrari 246 units but never one from a Fiat. In measuring valve sizes, he reports the intake valve size is 1mm smaller than one from a Ferrari. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

First of all, congrats on your car. Second of all, all of the motors were built by Fiat - whether they ended up in the Fiat Dino or the Dino. Third of all, the 246 Dino was never and will never be a Ferrari. It was just "Dino" though many owners and dealers in period decided to badge them with Ferrari scripts.

That aside: the valve size differences in the Dino lineup were only between the series 1 vs series 2 2.0 liter cars. It is absolutely possible that your car may have had series 1 heads fitted to it...

Pell Power should have all the valves you need. Check your seats - if they are OK, just clean and lap in new valves. There isn't a lot of extra material to work with.
