speedometer noise

Hello All,
Can any of you please tell me how to disassemble the speedometer without taking the middle consol apart? I have this clattering coming from the meter getting stronger with speed. We have already taken off the steering wheel trying unsuccesfully to reach the cable. Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance, Zsolt
