Hi, does anyone have a view about fuel additives? I have heard that modern petrol has changed a fair bit even in the last ten years, with a higher percentage of ethanol and other compounds. I used to add a Millers additive to the tank but more out of superstition than anything! I now have a freshly rebuilt engine and want to treat it right! Any views on this subject would be welcomed.

As I understand these engines have hardened valve seats so you would not need an additive to stop valve recession, but maybe you need it for something else.

I’m not sure how it is in the UK, but here in NL 98 octane from Shell and BP have no ethanol.

Thanks Tim. It's the ethanol content I am concerned about, I have heard it can do damage to the fuel system though I have no direct experience of this. In the UK ethanol is added to regular 95 octane unleaded at 5%. Some companies add it to their premium 98 octane petrol, some don't, and some apparently do so in specific geographic areas only! To be on the safe side I'll use fuel additive, unless anyone can offer some more definitive advice on the matter.
