Upcoming auctions
There are a couple of tidy looking spiders (here and here) coming up for auction in Paris which will no doubt benchmark values this side of the pond:
This 2.0L went for $110 at RMs Arizona sale recently

Re: Upcoming auctions
I can't supply any history on the cars, but I can only say that the supplied current history and pictures on the 2.4 are remarkably minimal and sketchy. I love the car's color scheme...I owned a '73 Alfa spider in that color scheme, and it really snapped. I can see why a French politician would be partial to it! I wonder if it started life with red trim?
Are the amber parking lights built into the front bumper a typical feature?
I can't tell for sure from the info given what the actual buyer's premium from Bonham's would actually be, but suspect it would be expensive, based on the sale of the yellow Artcurial car in France last year.

Re: Upcoming auctions
Looking at the photo, they seem to be reflective material stuck on to the steel bumper?amber parking lights built into the front bumper
A great colour scheme, nicely upholstered and the engine bay is very tidy. I don't like the Goodyears, coupe hub caps (I think), modern looking seatbelt stalks, non period stereo, missing wood from centre console, but these are all easily put right.
There's a stunning looking 2.4 Spider for sale in Italy for top money here.

Re: Upcoming auctions
The car has additional turn indicators let into the front bumper because the original wing mounted indicator lights have been removed and filled in. I have informed Artcurial in case they didn't realise. They rersponded that they had received my correspondence, but didn't refer to the issue. Car is no doubt "sold as seen". Would be expensive to locate and replace the original turn indicator units,

Re: Upcoming auctions
Brian, the Bonhams car has the bumper modification, not Artcurial. It just sold for £103,720 inc. premium. The 2L spider also sold for £108,042 - more than the 2.4L Go figure!

Re: Upcoming auctions
Hi Guys,
I was at the Bonhams Auction, the Blue 2.4 was very average, with a loads of rot in the Doors, the bootlid was in a very bad state, the exhaust was shot, and who knows what the structural or mechanical condition was actually like.. Good luck to the Buyer...
The 2000 spider was a much more original car, which looked pretty straight, but had been very badly painted, with orange peel on most panels etc..
Of the two cars, the 2000 Spider was head and shoulders above the 2400, which will probably require a lot of sorting and plenty of Cash!
Another friend of mine viewed the Red 2400 Spider at Retromobile, and said it was in much worse condition than the 2400 at Bonhams...

Re: upcoming auctions
Thanks, Spiderman for the excellent report from France! I think that explains the somewhat disappointing price that the blue car pulled. Our cars can really rust if given half a chance. Pictures can sure lie, can't they?
It looks like it still made $157K (including the STEEP buyer's premium) if I'm reading the auction results correctly. Thanks again. Looking forward to seeing what the red car does, but it sounds like it too will go a little cheap.
